When you come to chat on Chat4TV, you are agreeing to conduct yourself by our rules and policies. We are not the only place that you can chat, so if you don't agree to these, please go chat somewhere else.

1. Chat4TV welcomes people of all situations, belief systems, and Internet access methods, and wants to make a place that is comfortable and friendly for everyone. If you chat here, you agree not to engage in speech or behavior designed to harrass or make another person or group uncomfortable.

2. Chat4TV is open to people of all ages, and we are striving to keep it family-friendly. Sexually-explicit talk, activities, room topics, and nicknames are not allowed on this server. We're not saying you can't do these things -- we're just saying you can't use our server for them. Go somewhere else -- there are lots of places.

3. Be polite, or at least civil, in your communications here. Cursing, flooding, repetitious pop-ups, and other disruptive behavior will not be tolerated, and you may be warned, kicked, and/or banned if you engage in it. Intentional disruption of Chat4TV will be dealt with more seriously. We do run and retain transcripts for every room.

4. Custom WebTV IRC interfaces are allowed on this server, and if you would like one of your own, we will even provide you cut and paste code that you can use to make it. However, you, not the chat interface you are using, are responsible for any communication that you put into the room. You may not use a chat interface that contains chat bombs, floods, or other capability to disrupt the server or interfere with other users' enjoyment of it.

5. Only bots that are authorized by Chat4TV are allowed on this server.

6. ALL CAPS. This is considered shouting, and is impolite and not allowed in the normal Chat4TV rooms. We do recognize that some people feel they must type in all caps because of disability, impaired eyesite, or other reasons. We do have rooms where CAPS are allowed, and they have the name CAPS -- such as our channel #CAPSroom1 -- where anyone who needs to chat in all caps is welcome to do so.

7. Stalking, harrassment, abuse, or impersonation of other users will not be tolerated, and we treat this as a very serious issue. If you engage in this behavior here, we may take action beyond simply banning you from the server, including reporting you to your Internet provider and even to the appropriate authorities. Don't even think about it.

8. Kids and Teens. Rooms with the designation of "4Kids" or "Teen" have standards that, in addition to all other standards, do not allow sexually suggestive conversations or names. In addition, we do not allow rooms that suggest or encourage interaction between kids and teens and adults for improper or illegal purposes. For the same reason, we do not allow sexually suggestive innuendoes or double entendres (you know, bad stuff). Topics dealing with human sexuality and other similar subjects can be discussed, but in an educationally structured and monitored environment.

9. Administrators and Operators (Hosts) of Chat4TV can be identified by simply using the whois command. Anyone impersonating or attempting to impersonate a host will be removed without warning.

10. Users who violate our rules or disrupt a chatroom or server operations may be asked to behave, warned, kicked, banned from a room, or banned from the whole network, depending on the degree of the behavior. Users who have been asked to leave for misbehavior, or banned and who continue to attempt to come into the room from which they were banned or onto the network will be considered to be intentionally disrupting our operations and will be reported to their ISP. If you were banned and feel that it was unfair or would like to appeal for reinstatement, you should immediately. We will review your case.

11. Topic-based Chats. Some of our rooms, like the lobby, are general chats, and some are based around a topic. Please respect the topic in topic-based rooms and, when a topic-based chat is underway, don't disrupt it with general chat.

12. Hacking, trading of hacking information or stolen property, and any behavior which is illegal is not tolerated here, and will result in a permanent ban.

13. We recognize your right to freedom of speech, but we also recognize our right to freedom of publication and the fact that we are the owners of this server; we're the ones paying for it. This is one of thousands of servers on the Internet where you can chat. If you don't want to abide by our rules for this server, please exercise your freedom of speech on another network.

14. Privacy. This chat server is a public place, and you should assume that we or other people may be able to see and/or record a transcript of anything you say or do here. We can not guarantee the privacy of communications on this server (and you should know that NO chat communications are secure, on any server), but we normally do not review or share messages that are not in room transcripts unless we are investigating a security or legal problem.

15. We try to do our best to maintain a friendly service, but as with everywhere you chat, it is "at your own risk." By using this service, you agree to hold Net4TV Corporation, Iacta LLC, and the individuals involved in hosting this service harmless for anything that takes place here.

We wish we didn't need rules, but some people don't come by politeness and civility naturally. We hope you understand and will work with us.

There also are some private rooms on this server, and the hosting and topic of those is the responsibility of the room owner. Some private rooms are secret and cannot be seen in the roomlist; others are open whenever the host is there. Private rooms that are open are left on "moderated" (you cannot talk in an open room) when the host is not in.
